As a leader, I hate that feeling. It tears me up on the inside for days.
You make a decision thinking it’s the right action only to find out there are consequences you hadn’t considered – but it’s done!
Now what do you do?
Leaders like you face situations like this a bit more often than you want to admit. Sometimes they are minor bumps but then there are those that completely change the way you operate.
Running a business is tough any day of the week. You’re faced with a number of challenges. All of them seem to hinge on the fact there is never enough resources – both human and financial. You know that. You work hard telling your story about the great work you are doing and how it is changing lives or providing a product or service that solves a need of someone else. Frustration is a daily feeling. You see the impact you bring every day but no one else seems to get it.
You’re faced with a decision that can change the future of your organization – for the better or for survival – and the people who work with you. The weight of the decision is one only you can carry – and no one else seems to care or understand.
What do you do? Who do you turn to for advice or encouragement? Who else can even understand what you’re dealing with?
I’ve been there…I am there some days!
Because leading a business has its own set of challenges. You need to be able to talk about them with others who get it.
I’ve worked in the healthcare sector for nearly 30 years, and have been the CEO of a large local organization for the last 11 years. As a result, some of the decisions I’ve made were good and some bad. I had to live with them and had them eat at my gut. I’ve worked with other business leaders about their challenges and helped them work through some tough issues.
We all need help…dig deep and admit it.
